Although, architect profession is a freelance profession that can bring a lot of satisfaction and material benefits, but the path to starting work as an architect is neither simple nor short. In addition to the obvious stage of study and intensive study, the aspiring architect must also belong to the IARP (Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland).
How to become an architect?
The title of architect engineer can be obtained after completing the first cycle studies. The master's degree in architect engineer is obtained after completing second-cycle studies. However, the title does not entitle you to practice the profession immediately. Polish law provides that only a person who is on the list of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland is an architect capable of practicing the profession. The IARP is therefore the only career gateway for aspiring architects wishing to complete their first commercial project.
Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland
The Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland is a body whose main task enshrined in the statute is the protection of spaces and, above all, architecture perceived as a public good. In addition, IARP supervises the correct performance of technical functions used in construction and checks the quality of construction expertise used in the architectural specialty. Of course, this supervision covers only members of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland. For this reason, it is so important for a young architect who wants to do his first commercial projectto belong to the IARP.

Tasks and activities of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland
The Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland also deals with a number of additional tasks, which include, among others: maintaining the profession of an architect as an independent, protecting the title of IARP Architect, developing a number of standards relating to the performance of work by architects, working on regulations and adjusting the regulations on fees for members, and also the pursuit of introducing a program compatible with the EU program at Polish universities.
In carrying out its additional activities, IARP cooperates with the professional self-government of construction engineers. The Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland also works together with a number of other organizations to achieve its goals. The Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland is not only responsible for setting work regulations and standards, but also deals with educational, scientific, cultural and scientific-technical work.
Despite the fairly broad activity of IARP, it should be remembered that its primary overarching goal is to protect space and architecture as a public good. All the activities and the entire structure of the IARP are precisely geared towards this goal, and all side activities should be seen rather as an addition to this core activity.
The structure of the IARP consists of National Chamber of Architects together with the authorities, as well as 16 district chambers of architects.
Members' rights and obligations
By belonging to IARP, members can count on certain privileges and rights that they would not be able to enjoy without being members of the chamber. On the other hand, belonging to the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland also entails certain obligations.
These duties include: observance of professional ethics and adherence to its rules, cooperation with the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland, compliance with regulations and rules related to technical knowledge and clothingist, taking a stance on IARP resolutions and paying regular membership fees.
IARP members can count on the following rights and privileges: they can use self-help activities and legal assistance of the chamber, and they can count on help in improving their professional qualifications.
National Qualification Commission
When writing about the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland, it is impossible not to mention the National Qualification Committee. It is responsible for granting professional qualifications. It is a special body that is also specified in the statutes of the chamber. Undoubtedly, any aspiring architect wishing to obtain his qualifications will have to deal with the National Qualification Committee. In addition, the activities of the National Qualification Committee also include the supervision of the activities of the selection committees, and its activities are defined by the law and regulations within which it must operate.
Financing of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland
For an IARP to function, it needs to operate certain assets. For the purposes of financing its activities, the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland obtains funds from membership fees, from economic activity, from donations and subsidies, as well as from other revenues. The economic activities that may be conducted by the district chambers and the main National Chamber of IARP are practically not limited, however, it cannot be investment activities or activities in the field of design, construction, public works and construction appraisal. Such restrictions should not surprise anyone - business activity should not affect the independence of the Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland.
